Woodland Exploration and Conservation
There will again be opportunities for all to help conserve an 8 acre patch of ancient woodland near Hurstbourne Tarrant. Individual children or family units are welcome to join us to help with surveys, explore, coppice, plant hedging or make natural fences. This piece of woodland, part of Hurstbourne Tarrant Common, is now in private ownership, and being conserved with care and genuine appreciation, for the benefit of wildlife and children. In the future it will be a place where we can explore, watch, and even camp. You may call us wimps, but we leaders all refuse to camp before the end of April! Ring or email to be added to our list of volunteers, you may help in whatever way you choose, for as many, or few, hours as you choose. There will also be the opportunity for all to complete John Muir Conservation Awards there, and for children, Wildlife Action Badges. Back to topFancy Driving a Mini-bus?
As the need or wish to be able to make economical visits using a mini-bus have arisen, Elaine is arranging to have a MIDAS driving course run locally for any leader, helper or parent who would be happy to drive upto 16 people (including a minimum of three adults) to local or longer distance venues. Whilst most of us are qualified to drive a minibus on our current driving licence, we have decided, to maximise children's safety, to only use drivers who have completed HCC's MIDAS course (and refreshed every two years). This site is here for members to make use of!Any articles, photographs or pictures that children have painted, etc. are welcome! They may be posted as hard copy or e-mailed to a leader, or brought to a meeting. We photograph any art or craftwork, so if it's hard for you to bring it along, then perhaps we can come to you and photograph it. Please don't send us photographs of yourself, because it's pictures of wild creatures or plants we want, NOT wild children! We see quite enough of those at meetings, thank you! Remember - your poems, pictures, articles or bits of news will all go towards earning your next Gold Award! If you need help, just ask! Back to top
